Return of Title IV (R2T4) Policy

Federal regulations require ECTC to recalculate Pell Grant eligibility if a student withdraws before completing more than 60% of a payment period.

  • If a student withdraws before 60% completion, ECTC must return the “unearned” portion of aid to the U.S. Department of Education.

  • If a student withdraws after 60%, they are considered to have earned 100% of their Pell for that period.

Example:
A student scheduled for 450 hours withdraws after completing 180 hours (40%). The student has earned 40% of their Pell award for that payment period. ECTC must return the remaining 60% to the Department of Education.

Student Responsibility

Returned funds may create a balance that the student must repay to ECTC. Students should meet with Financial Aid before withdrawing to understand the impact.
