Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy
Emerald Coast Technical College (ECTC) is required by federal regulations to establish and enforce minimum standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for students receiving federal financial aid. SAP is measured at the end of each payment period.
Students must meet the following standards:
Qualitative Standard (Grades): Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 (C average). Failed courses must be successfully repeated.
Quantitative Standard (Pace): Students must successfully complete at least 67% of cumulative clock hours attempted. Attempted hours include completed, failed, repeated, and withdrawn hours.
Maximum Timeframe: Students must complete their program within 150% of the published length. Example: A 900-hour program must be finished within 1,350 hours.
Financial Aid Warning and Suspension
Students who fail SAP for the first time are placed on Financial Aid Warning for one payment period. Aid continues during the warning period.
If SAP is not met by the end of the warning period, students are placed on Financial Aid Suspension and lose eligibility for aid until SAP is regained or an appeal is approved.
