What is a School/Parent Advisory Council?
The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a school-based group intended to represent the school, the community, and other relevant stakesholders. The group has a shared responsibility for guiding the school toward continuous improvement. The SAC meets quarterly to review school goals and direct specific funds in support of these goals.
What is the role of the School/Parent Advisory Council?
The School Advisory Council (SAC) is responsible for final decision making relating to the school's implementation of components of its annual School Improvement Plan (SIP). The SAC assists in the yearly preparation and evaluation of the SIP and the school’s annual budget.
Who serves on the School/Parent Advisory Council?
The SAC is composed of the principal and an appropriately balanced number of teachers, education support employees, students, parents, and other outside stakeholders who are representative of the ethnic, racial, and economic community served by the school. Certain members are elected by their peers, while business and community members are appointed. The school's principal automatically serves as a member. At the secondary level, students serve on the SAC.
